Our Mission Finding the right medicine for the right patient as fast as possible

We will give patients the right tools to choose the best medicine for them.

Transforming Medicine: The Elizabeth Kauffman Institute (TMed) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established to use precision medicine to help people with life threatening diseases find the most effective treatments more quickly. We formed this institute because over half the medicines used today do not work for half the patients. This is particularly true for people fighting the most complex and fatal diseases.

Our mission is to create a knowledge base that matches individual patient characteristics, including genetic and molecular profiles, to current marketed drugs and emerging treatments in clinical development. This will effectively extend survival time, improve quality of life, and transform health outcomes. We will do this by leveraging breakthroughs in genomics, systems biology, and the accumulation of large scale patient information. Our goal is to accelerate the personalized medicine movement.

Our Methods for Achievement

Leverage patient data, machine learning, and cloud computing to:

  • Extend knowledge of drug effectiveness beyond the current standard of care and across traditional disease boundaries.
  • Discover new drug targets and disease pathways.
  • Repurpose existing drugs for life-threatening diseases where there is no effective treatment. These diseases include:
    • Brain Cancers
    • Sickle Cell Disease
    • ALS
    • Parkinson's
    • Pancreatic Cancer
    • Multiple Sclerosis

We will work with patient foundations, providers and biopharma companies to arm patients, caregivers and doctors with our tools and knowledge so they can quickly obtain the most effective treatment for every individual. We will eliminate the "one disease, one-drug-fits-all model" and replace it with precision or personalized medicine.

This is our effort.
